Position Description:

The position's primary responsibility will be to configure, test, install, document and troubleshoot customer solutions. The Network Engineer responsibilities include, local or remote configuration of WAN and security devices, and remote installation of WAN equipment including routers, firewalls, switches, modems and load balancers from various vendors, predominantly Cisco, Nortel, Netscreen, Radware, Adtran, etc. Must be able to talk both technically and non-technically depending on situation. The Engineer will need to understand channelization for voice and data, and how data infrastructures are designed and built.

Additionally, the Network Engineer acts as the level 2/3 subject matter expert for escalations from the Support Team. The Network Engineer is required to be an active participant in the trouble ticketing system for more than 5,000 managed WAN, and managed security sites with communications infrastructure varying in size from Fractional T1's to DS3, and employing technologies like MPLS, Frame Relay, Multilink Frame Relay, ATM, ATM/IMA, Point-to-Point, and ISDN.

The candidate for this position will effectively utilize prior education and demonstrated work experience to make an immediate, independent contribution to the Network Engineering team. Apply specialized knowledge to projects diverse and complex in scope, as a Subject Matter Expert within the specified discipline, and may function as a team lead. Exercises judgment within defined standard practices and procedures to analyze, design, program, debug, modify, and implement, local, networked, or internet-related infrastructures.

Required Skills:

* The Network Engineer must have a minimum of 2 years WAN/LAN experience. The engineer must be extremely well versed in TCP/IP, the rules of network design, and be able to troubleshoot issues remotely. The engineer must be thoroughly familiar with routing, and troubleshooting routing issues with BGP, EIGRP, RIP, and OSPF.

* Must be knowledgeable in NAT, access-lists, policy based mapping, traffic shaping, and priority queuing.

* Must be able to recognized faults in design, work with Systems Engineers, other Network Engineers, and vendors to over come faults, and be able to succinctly document issues and explain solutions to technical and non-technical personnel.

* Large enterprise LAN/WAN environment or telecommunications company experience.

* Must have planned, designed, implemented and supported data networks, performed network analysis, engineering and software functions in mid-size enterprise.

* Must have extensive LAN/WAN infrastructure, design and implementation experience in Cisco, Netscreen, Nortel, and Adtran product lines.

* Must have experience with load balancing data traffic. Frame Relay Switching systems, Carrier Networks and T1 & T3, DS3, SONET, and ISDN experience.

* Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP and routing protocols, such as BGP, RIP, OSPF, EIGRP,

* Knowledgeable with DNS/DHCP. VRRP, and HSRP, VLANs, and InterVlan routing.

* Excellent communication and organizational skills to collaborate with internal and external customers.

* Knowledge of Network monitoring and traffic capturing tools, Ethereal or Sniffer, MRTG.

* Experience with Cisco PIX, Netscreen Firewalls, and VPNs.

* Strong knowledge of Internet Protocols, and using the Internet Protocol Application Suite.

* VoIP knowledge and experience is a plus.

Desired Skills:

* Voice over IP, configuration, design, and troubleshooting. Voice traffic shaping, and prioritization.

* Experience configuring, and troubleshooting router based IOS Firewall, Cisco PIX, and Netscreen firewalls.

* Must be at least minimally familiar with security related terms, and technologies, such encryption, authentication, Ipsec, VPN tunnels including GRE, and controlling traffic.

Non-Tech Skills:

*
Strong process improvement and customer focused skills.

*
Superb documentation skills, and patience.

*
Experience with Visio is highly recommended.
