Jobing Description

Basic Function:
Partners with excavating contractors, locate contractors, and the public to reduce damages to Atlanta Gas Light Company's (AGLC) distribution facilities.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs random, visual inspections and quality assurance checks of locate requests assigned to contractors to ensure on-time completion and accuracy.
Reviews locate quality issues with Senior Management and locate contractors to identify and implement strategies to reduce damages and improve quality and accuracy of locates; communicates with locate contractors when locate not done or not done accurately; reviews and reconciles invoices submitted by locate contractors.
Conducts damage investigations in matters of incorrectly located facilities; analyzes damage and damage reports to determine cause of damages; makes recommendations and assists in implementing new strategies to prevent future damage; prepares Incident Reports for Public Service Commission (PSC).
Participates in locate contractors' orientation programs; makes presentations on how to locate facilities.
Conducts meetings with excavation contractors to build their awareness in matters of regulations and best practices; designs and conducts "Dig Safely" presentations for excavators.
Attends Georgia Utility Coordination Committee (GUCC) meetings; builds and promotes working relationships.
Researches Geographic Information System (GIS) records to obtain locate data; supplies information to locate contractors; reviews new installation "as-builts" and provides information to engineering firms and municipalities as requested.
Supports assigned Service Center and Construction Coordinator to ensures lines are timely located by locate contractors.
Conducts truck inventory to ensure truck is stocked with equipment and supplies; maintains vehicle and tools.

Position Requirements
Education and Experience:
Required:
High school diploma or GED
2 years experience in gas distribution field operations
Computer literacy - basic proficiency
Or
Equivalent academic education and experience

Preferred:
1-2 years locating experience

Skills:
Required:
Knowledge of quality assurance concepts
Interpersonal
Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan

Certifications/Licenses:

State driver's license

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Exposure to outdoor elements (rain, sun, heat, cold)
Stooping, kneeling, reaching above and below shoulders; frequent bending
Climbing in and out of manholes
Walking long distances to inspect facilitates
Keyboarding = Frequent 34-66%
On-Call = Constant 67-100%
Out of town travel = Occasional 1-33%
