Jobing Description

As we expand the Distribution Operations organization, we re in search of enthusiastic candidates to help us build a strong leadership team. As key members of the Southern Operations management team, supervisors will work to fulfill the duties and responsibilities necessary to support the deployment and direction of the 2011 Operating Model, which is vital to the continued improvement and growth of our utility operations business.

Supervisors will be instrumental in the implementation of the Operating Model by helping to define the role and document best practices. In this position, candidates will be critical to helping our company meet the Customer First and compliance obligation, and service commitments. In addition, supervisors will work to create a work environment that encourages stronger one-on-one relationships with employees by expanding the focus on performance development and professional growth.

Basic Function:
Supervises employees and contractors performing various tasks, to include reading and reporting gas meter consumption data from commercial, industrial, and residential customers. Also supervises employees in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of natural gas mains and service lines, to turn gas service on and off, install and remove meters, identify, classify, and repair gas leaks for residential, commercial, and industrial customers during routine and emergency conditions. Ensures safety of personnel and compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Company rules and regulations.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
Assigns and coordinates routes with employees and contractors.
Downloads meter reading routes daily; enters route information into systems for employee and contract Meter Readers; uploads information at end of work day.
Supervises daily and long-range activities to install, maintain, repair, and remove gas pipeline facilities below and above ground; resolves leak problems; oversees maintenance of meter reading equipment. Schedules employees and contractors; assigns tasks.
Oversees contractors (i.e., leak survey, paving); reviews performance; approves invoices for payment.
Manages and maintains vehicles (e.g., crew, emergency, boom trucks; backhoe, Kubota). Coordinates maintenance schedules. May provide route orientation for Meter Readers; drive routes and demonstrate correct methods to read meters.
Prepares new service, rework, and repair permitting documents for employees and contractors.
Ensures compliance with local, state, federal regulations; company policies and procedures. Updates manuals, records, and systems. Coordinates training for certifications.
Serves as liaison to fire departments, police departments, Department of Transportation; business, civic and community organizations.
Supervises the daily download of work assignments from Automated Dispatch into Mobile Data Terminal (MDT); sets up route for day and enters in MDT; uploads work completed data at end of day.
Identifies and classifies gas leaks; repairs or reports situations. Is first responder for gas emergencies.
Supervises personnel who perform the following:
Turns gas service on or off at customer s request; turns service off because of non-payment.
Performs minor gas repairs at customer s request; arranges for customer billing.
Installs, maintains, changes, and removes meters.
Repairs plastic service lines as required.
Assists in reading meters to accommodate Marketers customer billing cycles as required.
Interacts with Marketer Support Team to investigate errors and provide special meter readings; may read meters to support the 21 billing schedules for marketers.

General Supervision
Ensures safety of personnel and compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and Company rules and regulations.
Determines local service resource availability conditions (White/Grey/Black) for Customer Service Representatives to use in scheduling work assignments; enters meter reading data into spreadsheets and databases (e.g. number of meters read, skips, misreads). Rearranges daily work assignments and schedules as required.
Responds to and helps resolve escalated customer complaints (e.g., damage to property, high gas bills, loss of service; meter sets, transfers, removes, retires, meters in stock, paint meter, corrosion orders).
Provides assistance to other Service Centers as required.
Coordinates V-Force activities.
Prepares and administers budget (e.g., employees and contractors, tools, equipment, vehicles) according to plan. Monitors budget variances. Provides explanations on variances and takes appropriate action.
Supervises staff selection, development and retention. Establishes and monitors work goals and objectives.
Coaches, provides feedback and evaluates performance of staff.
Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance.

Position Requirements
Education and Experience:
Required:
High school diploma or GED
7-10 years experience in gas distribution operations or related experience
Or
Equivalent academic education and experience
Preferred:
1-3 years supervisory experience
