Job Summary
This position will support Colonial’s core business and strategic growth initiatives by taking the lead on tactical accounting for and audits of all equity investments and wholly owned subsidiaries. She/he will assist with the department’s system and process improvement initiatives, and maintain accounts and related reconciliations. This individual will provide needed capacity during key close periods between joint ventures and Colonial.

Conducts daily work in compliance with Colonial’s safety policies and procedures. Demonstrates Colonial’s core values of Safety, Personal Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork in completing work assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities included represent typical responsibilities for this job and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed. Management reserves the discretion to assign additional duties and/or to change job requirements
  • Support the monthly financial close process by processing the necessary journal entries and performing the required variance analysis. Ensure accuracy and timelines with adherence to the 5 day month-end deadline. Leverage financial reporting tools such as Host Analytics and Oracle to automate monthly financial reports.
  • Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts monthly, resolve issues timely and ensure balances are properly supported and explained.
  • Review monthly financial statements of Joint Ventures and wholly owned subsidiaries for accuracy. Perform analysis and interpretation of variances and trends on financial statements for use by key stakeholders.
  • Assist with ad-hoc special projects including system and process improvement initiatives
  • Prepare updates of internal control narratives and assist with internal and external audits
  • Serve as system administrator for Financial Reporting systems and tools. This includes maintenance of the chart of accounts in the ERP systems and serve as administrator for the Accounting SharePoint site. Assist in the creation and maintenance of automated monthly and ad-hoc reports.
  • Assist in the Company’s preparation of the quarterly and annual filing of Form 6 with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Assist with rate case efforts as needed
  • Assist in the E&Y quarterly financial reviews and annual audits. Prepare schedules, reconciliations and reports as requested by external auditors
  • Read, interpret and apply accounting standards to current or proposed transactions as they apply to joint ventures as well as the new and existing strategic initiatives. (GAAP and FERC)


Minimum Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or closely related
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in accounting areas of financial reporting, accounting systems and/or general ledger accounting.
  • Understanding of and experience with GAAP required
  • Demonstrated proficiency with financial systems including experience with implementing new systems or upgrading existing systems.


Preferred
  • CPA
  • Knowledge of Oracle financials and/or Host Analytics
  • 1-2 years of public accounting experience
  • Experience with reconciliation tools preferred


Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of the Pipeline industry.
  • Developing and applying knowledge of GAAP & FERC Accounting. Financial Analysis.
  • Extensive Computer skills (MS Office, Oracle or other large ERP, Host Analytics, Workday, and Blackline systems or other account reconciliation tool)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple assignments
  • Strong interpersonal communication and ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily performed in a typical office environment.
  • Visual acuity to read and prepare reports and documentation.
  • Digital dexterity for operation of PC Keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to communicate in order to understand instructions, convey information and receive information.
