Department and Division Information:  The Department of Information Technology Services consists of five Divisions: Enterprise Applications/Development, Infrastructure/Operations, Fiscal/Administrative, Information Security, and Business Strategic Services.

The Infrastructure & Operations Support Division consists of three sections: End User Support, Systems & Storage, and Network & Telecommunications.  They collectively provide services in the areas of Desktop Support, Data Center Operations, Server Administration, and Network and Telecommunications Support. The staff supports over 4,500 personal computers, approximately 950 Microsoft Servers, 110 physical network locations and approximately 5,000 telephony devices throughout the County. We are dedicated to providing technologies for an efficient, secure, and innovative client environment.

Position Description:  This is a critical position within our Systems and Storage organization.  This senior position will manage and lead staff within the Unix Team.  This position will work closely with the Infrastructure Team, external areas, key customers and other IT teams as well.  This position may also be responsible for managing projects.  Below are the desired skills needed for success in this position:

  • Assist with hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations
  • Oversees, develops and administers complex technical application systems, databases and programs while ensuring security and data integrity
  • Analyzes development and implementation requirements and makes appropriate modifications to existing systems
  • Leads the operations and project plan preparation and execution in assigned area of responsibility
  • Analyzes development and implementation requirements and makes appropriate modifications to existing systems and prepares specifications based on customer requests
  • Performs needs assessment and recommends or develops system improvements and prepares related documentation
  • Oversees and administers a variety of contracts with external vendors and/or service providers
  • Facilitates the migration of computer applications from development to production
  • Assists in developing the budget, monitors and forecasts expenditures, recommends purchases of equipment, solicits and evaluates bids
  • Plans, researches, evaluates, writes specifications and procures hardware and software for all levels of automation
  • Participates in a variety of special projects related to Information Technology
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the county departments, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
The Grade for this position is for Grade C45(1).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field,
  • 5 years of progressively responsible, professional level analyst and systems experience in a large scale Information Technology environment, and/or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Valid driver's license from state of residency
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
  • Availability to work on-call after hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating schedule with other team members
  • Background Check will be required
Preferred Experience:
  • 3+ years of experience as a team lead
  • FTP and SFTP security and storage
  • Linux and Unix administration
  • VM administration
  • CommVault backup operations
  • Operational knowledge of Microsoft operating systems
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, Exchange Server, Windows applications
  • Knowledge and understanding building, maintaining and monitoring Windows servers
  • Operational and functional knowledge with HP and IBM server hardware and VMWare Virtual Servers
  • Experience with Symantec AntiVirus, WSUS, Print Services, DNS, DHCP, WINS, Exchange and Active Directory administration
  • Information technology principles and trends
  • Applicable laws, rules and regulations
  • Budgetary principles
  • Application development processes and tools
  • Analytical methods and performing needs assessments
  • Analyzing and designing complex systems
  • Communication technical information to a non-technical audience
  • Analyzing processes, information and data
  • Documenting procedures
